Hoa Binh is a province located in the mountains, west of Hanoi. Hoa Binh has a long history that is connected with the rest of Vietnam. The province is home to many ethnic groups namely the Thai, Muong, Chinese, Tay, Mong, Kinh, and Dao. The scenic views and rich history of Hoa Binh provides plenty of attractions for tourists domestically and internationally.

Hoa Binh’s location is advantageous because it creates a warm climate in the summer and is cold in winter. The average temperature of the province is at 24.4⁰C. The province’s climate is split into two seasons which are summer from April to September and winter from October to March. Hoa Binh also has numerous bodies of water such as dams, rivers, lakes, and streams. The area covered by bodies of water stretches to around 18,000 hectares, 8,000 hectares of which belong to Hoa Binh Lake. There are also a diverse array of flora and fauna found in Hoa Binh that have appeared on the endangered species list.



Hoa Binh boasts of having many ethnic groups. Each ethnic group has their own culture and unique way of doing things. The ethnic groups contribute to the diversity of the region. According to a 2009 census, there are 788,274 residents in the province, of which 63% are from the Muong ethnic group.

Mai Chau Valley
Mai Chau is situated approximately 135 kilometers from Hanoi. Mai Chau is a serene place to visit because of the friendly locals and stunning landscapes. The cultural diversity of these villages presents tourists with a distinct culture and colorful festivals. The Thai ethnic group is split into two groups which are the White and Black Thais. Both groups have their own language.
Like most ethnic groups in the mountainous region in Vietnam, the Thai ethnic group live in stilt houses. The houses have polished bamboo slat floors and palm leaf roofing. The kitchen is located at the center of the home where women cook and make ‘brocade’, the primary material needed to make clothes. The houses are nicely decorated with all sorts of patterns. The houses also have small ponds to breed fish. These kinds of houses can be seen in Lac Village. The stilt houses in the village are used for home stays whenever tourists come to visit. Kim Boi Hot Spring
Located in Kim Boi District, Hoa Binh Province. It is a mineral hot spring and is known to provide health benefits. The water in Kim Boi Hot Spring is potable, good for bathing, swimming, and can treat various ailments such as blood pressure and stomach ache. The hot spring covers 7 hectares and is a peaceful and exciting place to be in.



Kim Boi Hot Spring courses underground and has temperatures of 34⁰C to 36⁰C. Once you get to the spring, you can register at any of the resorts or at VResort. The resort is situated right next to the hot spring.

Pom Coong Village
Pom Coong Vilage is a part of Mai Chau Town, Mai Chau District. Like other villages of the Thai and Muong, Pom Coong is situated near rivers or streams. The Thai are widely recognized for their traditional dances. The stilted houses of the Thai are often higher that the stilted houses of other ethnic groups, making their homes more comfortable. The floor rises 2m above the ground. The large windows provide proper circulation. The Thais create brocades, clothes, and bags to attract visitors. The souvenirs you can buy at the village come in various colors which add to the personality of the village.
The specialty of Pom Coong Village is an authentically Thai space that provides excellent water systems, clean and potable water, comfort, and security. Lac Village
Lac Village is found in Mai Chau Valley, Hoa Binh. Hoa Binh is approximately 70km from Hanoi, visitors must travel at least 60km to get to Mai Chau. Lac Village has an eclectic mix of Thai ethnic groups such as Loc, Lo, Ha, and Mac. According to the leader of the village, Ha Cong Tim, the village is more than 700 years old. Before, the professions practiced by the locals ranged from weaving brocade to planting rice. Lac Village can now be explored and discovered by visitors from all over the world.



In 1993, DPC in Mai Chau made a proposal to Hoa Binh Province that enables visitors to stay a night in the village. After passing the proposal, Lac Village is now regarded as a must-visit destination in the country.
Women in the village are adept at weaving scarves, brocade dresses, wallets, skirts, and other handmade products. A visit to the village lets visitors enjoy authentic cuisine such as bamboo cooked rice and experience the everyday life of the locals. The ethnic groups in the village are known to be friendly and gentle. During lazy afternoons, the village’s beauty is exposed by the rays of the sun. The villagers will also cook bitter bamboo or roast meat for visitors. While eating authentic cuisine, visitors are serenaded with the music of gongs.

Hoa Tien Cave
Hoa Tien Cave is situated behind Mount Bua Dam. Visitors must go on a 100m trek to get to the entrance from the foot of the mountain. Visitors will be greeted by a spectacular scene once they reach the entrance to the cave. Hoa Tien Cave has two entrances, which are the south and southeast door. As soon as a visitor sets foot in the cave, they will be dazzled by a plethora of stalactites and stone pillars that cast a ray of light.
The main cave measures 27m widthwise and 61m lengthwise. From the entrance, visitors will see two sections of the cave. Upon entering, a bevy of stalactites will fill the line of sight of visitors. The stalactites and rock formations take on various shapes and sizes. The stalactites on the ceiling look like bright yellow dresses.
The northern side of the cave measures 12m widthwise and 60m lengthwise, and is separated by a stone colonnade from the main cave. Tourists enter the center of the cave via the natural wall. Behind the cave, tourists are welcomed by a plethora of breathtaking rice terraces. Upon entering the first corner, tourists will see a small lake, which is the beginning of a series of small lakes that form several terraces. The cool and fresh water coursing through the cave and the lights that falls from above will surely mesmerize and overwhelm tourists. The stalactites also take on many shapes that show the artistry of nature.



The southwest corner of the cave is situated toward the outside of the mountain. The cave is wet and rough, and was formed by large boulders. The light shining through the cave transforms the stone pillars and stalactites into various shapes that only the imagination can fathom. The stalactites inside the cave weave softly like silk into each other to create splendid architecture that only nature can concoct. The high and low blocks of stalactites create a magical picture that is akin to painting and world-class architecture. Travelers from the world over consider Hoa Tien Cave a must-see attraction whenever one visits Vietnam.
After exploring the cave and enjoying its wonders, tourists walk to another path that leads to a boat to Hoa Binh, where tourists will experience boating through a romantic lake.
 

Hoa Binh Dam
Song Da is the biggest branch of the Red River from Yunnan, China. The downstream area of the river delta has a dense population where Hanoi is situated in. Hoa Binh Hydropower Plant combines different technologies such as underground water to turbine system, rock dams, and traffic tunnel systems.


 
Hoa Binh Hydropower Plant was constructed from 1979 to 1994 with eight machines that provide 1,920 MW which constitutes 1/3 of productivity in the country. It is not only a power plant it is also a noteworthy attraction for tourists. Several valuable structures namely the Ho Chi Minh Statue on Tuong Hill which measures 18m height-wise, the traditional section that keeps important letters, and memorials on the Soviet and Vietnamese experts that sacrificed to construct the hydropower plants. Along with its economic and social importance, Hoa Binh Hydroelectric Power Plant is a noteworthy destination for tourists.
Aside from the hydropower plant, tourists have the chance to go to the museum. The museum is two stories high and also has a showcase of the construction process. Just outside the museum, there are letters that were preserved on stone blocks. There is also a memorial on the people who sacrificed to build Hoa Binh Hydropower Plant. Atop the memorial is a bronze bell. Below it is a circle that has 168 stone steles which contains the names of those who sacrificed.
